It depends on the value you provided. Is the program worth the
$40,000 or so? Will they be making a lot of money off of it? If so,
I wouldn't discount it after the fact. Do what you did on the
previous projects.. that is what they are expecting. If the website

Man...you're in a bit of a tough situation...I've been there myself.
One thing you could do to reduce the "freakout" factor is offer to let them
pay the bill in installments, i.e. half or a third at a time.

I've seen this for ongoing, monthly, recurring hours (only) where you'd
auto-bill them for use-em-or-lose-em hours with a price structure something
like:
4 hrs/month - $400
8 hrs/month - $720
16 hrs/month - $1280
etc
...with extra hours available as-needed @ the most expensive rate...

A practice I usually do is invoice weekly on a project. I rarely do

one.

Chad,
Speaking from fairly vast experience I would say the following:
1) Agree in advance on the rate.
2) Find a way to communicate these hours are "racking up" as it happens. The
worst thing is to surprise them. You really want to work hard to communicate
as the hours are worked so they have a

Actually we my son wrote a routine for connecting Quickbooks over https to/from
a CF app. I should talk to him about this.

What I do in Quickbook is very simple. Under "Item" is usually select
"Programming" or "Consulting". In "Description" I reference the billable hours
pdf file generated by the billing timer application. Enter the qty and rate as
shown on the pdf and I'm done. My cpa has never complained, and it m

My "clever tip", to the extent that you can call it one, is to hire an
application developer who's also an accountant as a consultant. I really

Do you have link (foreign key) columns?
With what you have here I am not sure how you would write a join.
Also what db? It matters :)

P.S. Don't look at the ugly site that's up there now. The new ones not
up and I never would have done something like that (but my boss did).

Sorry, jus
Take a look at the Google adwords program, you can see how it is priced
and such without having to sign up. Obviously, adjust your rates as
appropriate but the overall program is fairly easy to understand and
might be a good starting point.

Sorry, just realized my response went a bit OT on what you originally
asked for, but an addition to phpMyAds is that it shows you common
sizes, common practices, etc.
It's difficult to gauge a range of rates without knowing the traffic,
the target audience, etc. I'd recommend scoping the competit

Grab phpMyAds; it's the best I've seen for the way to manage either
multiple types of banners and their runs, as well as multiple sites.
I've worked for a few companies that hired external resources to manage
all of the banners, etc. (because they sold them, as well) and p
Depends on the price point. If you're truly talking Peach Tree or
Quickbooks, no. If price is not the main concern, you might check out Sage
Software's Acuity. It's based on COM Component architecture with a SQL
Server 7 backend. That might be suitable for integration but the cost is
high.

We have used DBA http://www.dbasoftware.com
