Well, I will say I am far from what you would call a complete Chevy guy. I'm more of Pontiac guy at heart, but appriciate just about anything on the road including imports. I agree that Gm needs to get into the market share... they kill the f-body and they have always lagged way behind in truck
Thanks Clint!
two more things,
1. do you know if the zr-1 factory 17x11 and 17x9,5 wheels will fit on our chevelles
ore are they the wrong backspacing.
2. do you know the diameter and thickness of the front rotors and whether the front
calipers are two or four piston.
Thanks again

I am a GM guy at heart, butwe owned several
Voyager/Caravan vans when our kids were growing up. We loved them! The styling
was just super. Lots of our relatives owned the GM vans at the same time, and we
all agreed they were inferior to ours - comfort, convenience, reliability, etc.

If it's only eating up
the rear thrust bearing face you are sure the crank, rods, etc are in good
condition, then I'd say it HAS to be a flywheel/clutch-Flexplate/Converter or
trans problem. Is it an automatic or standard?
Maybe a VERY slim chance of a Harmonic
Balancer problem. I doubt

Its an automatic (TH400). Ive
tried 3 different torque converters and had the trans rebuilt a second time. I
checked to make sure the driveshaft wasnt too long and causing a bind. After
the last bearing went out I took the trans to JW Performance Transmissions to
have them check it out.
Interesting Thread. Only one
thing I have to add regarding the DODGE Truck . is it's REAR. A local guy who
own a rear endservice shop " The Rear Man " every time he see or
hears adodge diesel he make a cash regester sound.
Whyhe calls it his job security,
fixes alot of them.

Bill, sorry to hear of all your troubles with your engine.
What kind of bearings are you using? Is there any chance that you have
some defective bearings all from the same batch? Can you call the bearing
company tech line ask them for help?
Sounds like you checked everything.
Well I guess I have had this problem long enough and now

If I were
you I would disconnect the battery cables and see what happens. It could be the
battery itself not holding a charge.
You might
also want to drive it to the local Auto Zone or whatever and ask them if they
can do a load test on the battery.

Hi Brian, yup, we are all here.
I'd just like to say thanks for unsubscribing while you were away as

I am kinda stumped as man and your self are Bill. I know how it sucks with a problem that doesn't seem to make sense. Maybe a new block and crank witl proper machine work will solve your woes. At this point I can't remeber what exactly you had done on the machine shop side of things, but blancing

I had this very problem in my Cutlass. The battery took a poo poo. Put a
new one in and it has not done it since. It was not holding a charge for

I checked to see if it was charging. It is reading 13.6
The battery is a Die Hard Gold that is less than 2 years old. I guess I can
get the battery checked at Sears.

Don I don't know if it makes a difference, but if it was
astick and the pilot bearing is still in the crank, it may put pressure on
the converter. Tom B.

Title: Re: [Chevelle-List] Thrust bearing failure
It's always a possibility I guess. You
wouldn't think it would matter if the bearing is in correctly but you never
know. I'm stumped on this one. I was thinking possibly they gave him the
wrong thrust bearing? I just can't think of what else
No,I think the original color was a dark green. It's black now but will
probably be repainted back to the original color during the restoration.

I doubt that ZR-1 wheels would fit any stock Chevelle or El Camino. Offset
on the front wheels is 56mm and 36mm on the rear. That's a bunch of
backspacing. The front rotors are 13 in diameter and approximately 1.1
thick. The front PBR calipers are two piston.
