Does anyone know if a standard 454 crank/rod/piston combo will fit in a tall
deck block? I don't know for sure, but I assume because the deck height is
10.2 vs the standard 9.8, the pistons and/or rods will need to be
different. TIA

At the very least, the pistons are different. What do you have in mind
now,Herb?

Does
Usually with more splines it has a larger shaft hence more strength!

I was at a show tonight and there was a 68 Malibu there, Grotto Blue with
the trim for a vinyl roof, but no vinyl. The fellow who owns it said that
was the way the car came from the factory. I tried to get a look at the
trim tag, but it was too dark to see I didn't have my glasses on, so I
Any vinyl topped Chevelle will have a number next to the paint code...like 1
for white or 2 for black (only two available in 68). Two-toned cars also
used the same trim. If upper or lower were originally Grotto Blue, tag
would read DC (Grotto Blue/White), DE (Grotto Blue/Fathom Blue), or ED
On tall deck truck engines, the piston has a fourth ring. Also, most of them
have gear driven timing sets from the factory. That's all I know for sure.

Also, it takes a specific intake or else you have to add shims to a short
deck intake in order for the head ports to match the intake.

Those are for a street rod or other classic that has flat glas and only
goes straight up and down. I don't know if the 64/65's have that situation,
but I'm pretty sure none of the rest of the Chevelles do, so in most cases
these won't work in a Chevelle.
I have a 69 Chevelle and I know there's a
Opps, one more thing, standard headers don't work. The drivers side will in
most cases, but the right side will hit the starter.

Don't think it'd work, Chevelles don't have straight glass.

Anyone
Best aftermarket I found are universal from http://www.autoloc.com . Had a
complete set in my 67 and the worked like a charm and were very simple to
install. http://www.dalesplace.com/images/chevelle/elec_windows.jpg Part of
the unit slips over the manual regulator to 'roll' the windows up/down.
Here are the specs I got on mine (Moser) for my '66: 33 spline axle, posi,
3.55 Richman pro gears, 1350 yoke. The 33 vs. the 30 is supposed to be
stronger, though I don't know if most of us will ever need to find out. I
also added their trick rear end cover. The whole thing set me back $2500 +
I thought long about going that way. Gear changes are as simple as changing
the pumpkin out (or so I've heard)..and there is a ton of stuff out there
for them.

Dale,
The power windows, nice setup, I
like that. Did it go fast down, and slow up like the factory ones?
