If it’s broken, I don’t think you'll make it any worse by trying it again. Once a transmission is "smoked" they typically want to do a total rebuild. I've never heard an automatic transmission squeal at idle though. Personally, I would try it, and try to get the fluid level right asap.

Pelle, in the simplest of terms..the flexplate is used with an automatic transmission, and the flywheel is used with a manual gearbox.  The flywheels is much heavier..usually at least 25+ pounds, and is thicker. They both come in 153 and 168 tooth sizes.   HTH, Jim - Original Message
