I agree with the opinion that it is safer to breed merle chis than to breed small chis. I have 2 Australian Shepherds (one blue merle and one black tri) and have done research on genetics and colors. I do not breed them but was planning to in the beginning. Aussies have 4 colors in their stan

The merle gene doesn't have any problems unless you breed merle to merle. If you breed merle to merle, you can have small eyes, no eyes, and vision problems. You should NEVER breed merle to merle. Other than that, breeding merle to non-merle is as safe as breeding any two non-merles.

I am not a breeder. My info here is only from my personal opinion and from what I have observed from looking at organization websites and talking with breeders of different breeds. CKC allows breeders to get a pedigree or breeding line established VERY easily. All you have to do is have 2 peo
