I haven't done a lot of tests myself but I did try raw dv export today
(with latest svn cinelerra) and got some crackle and pop when
replaying the audio. The problem was not acute but just random pops
from the speaker (an average of perhaps one every 2 seconds).

Oops, here's a patch for that. The theory here is that if we're doing
fixed bit rate, we don't want to start talking about quantization level.

Since it seems nobody is really benefiting by having the '-q 0' setting
for mpeg video output, I propose the following patch. If there's other
braindead command line arguements in there by default, we can tweak them
as well.

In cinelerra there are options for the yuv4mpeg output (at least when doing
an MPEG2 export) accessed via the little spanner icon. I would assume the
yuv4mpeg export has a similar thing. Make sure that the "bottom field
first" option is selected in here as well. This option is independent of

Since you have a master rendered DV mov file, you can use mplayer to
play it and pipe yuv to mpeg2enc (and whatever filters you want as
well). And you can pipe a second time to make the audio. Or, you could
even try to do both at the same time! To see an example, check out the
scripting at tovi

In regards to the jitter,
if you play it in xine (/ kaffeine / xine-based player), and then press
"i" (turn enable / disable the de-interlacing) do you see the jitter? I
tend to do the interlacing tests in xine rather than the dvd player to
observe the jitter. (saves me $1..) You may need t
I tried yuvdeinterlace and that gave me a video with tons of blocks.
It's simply horrible, and I didn't even bothered about burning a DVD and
testing it on my standalone DVD player.
Still no clue.

Here is my workflow :

- I export à YUV4MPEG
- I use mpeg2enc to encode to mpeg2 with :
