Yes, a convergence would occur anyway, but if the Router ID changes, a lot
more things could go wrong. For example, virtual links are configured using
the Router ID. If the router ID changes (like by having a serial interface
your RID), the virtual link goes down.
Having loopbacks as your Router
I usually just reboot routers on the fly and work on something else while
that router is rebooting.

Group,
I wanted to share a simple thing I do that I
thought really helped in my lab. I never got a lot of access to ATM gear, so
here's what I did:
I used practice scenarios and the configuration
guides for different versions of the IOS. Since I didn't have the actual gear, I
tried to so
Hard to believe, but most people don't know you can
use notepad in the lab. Here's how I do a base config on all my
routers:
en
config t
ip classless
ip subnet-zero
no ip domain-lookup
alias exec cb clear ip bgp *
alias exec ci clear ip route *
alias exec cx clear ipx route *
alias exec i s
Chuck,
The virtual link would not reconverge because of how it is configured. It
needs to use Area 1 as a transit area and terminate on a specific routed ID.
It wouldn't be able to go through other routers in your setup because it
would have to either terminate on a different RID (not acceptable)
The RSM uses the backplane of the switch. It doesn't need to be connected
externally.

A NSSA is a stub area that has an ASBR attached to it. It is a Cisco feature
that allows this to happen. Instead of flooding type 5 LSAs, the ASBR floods
the area with type 7 LSAs. When these reach the ABR, it will then propagate
to the rest of the network using type 5 LSAs.

If you are using the IPsec client and your ISP is doing NAT, you will have
problems. When the NAT changes the packet, the CRC of the packet gets
screwed up and messes up IPsec. If you NAT through the Altiga box, however,
they supposedly can NAT IPsec with no problem.

It all depends on what you want to do, how your network is set up, what kind
of equipment you have, and how much money you're willing to spend.

The 2621 is a little different. Instead of the o/r command, just use the

A customer wants us to install a new Cisco switch infrastructure. After the

Actually, when you do a copy start run, it only adds lines that are missing
from your running config. It does not actually go in and change things like
your password. This means that you can use the command at any time. I just
did it multiple times on my home lab.

The simple way to think about it is this: VLAN = Subnet. If you do it any
other way you are defeating the purpose of using VLANs (except , of course,
for the earlier example I gave).

But the performance is still much faster than manually routing everything.
After the first couple of packets, the switch doesn't need to go through the
router to reach the other subnet. So, in fact, it is really like layer 3
switching.
