u can use cisco encapsulation for cisco routers and ietf for all others. what encapsulation is to be configured on the main interface depends on how many non-cisco and cisco routers u have. if you have, say, 7 cisco and 3 non cisco, u can use cisco encapsulation on the main interface and then

Hi, Thanx for the reply,this ietf is cleared but another doubt came what advantages again specifying broadcast keyword on the sub interface then on main interface as frame-relay dlci can have broadcast keyword. Whats is the good practise whether by default we should enable broadcast

Juntao gave you good answers, but I thought I'd comment on the issue of whether you should shut down a serial interface before changing the encapsulation. It is the polite thing to do, although it's not necessary to get it to work. It sounds like you were using PPP before. Remember that the Link
