Yes, the StrataCom materials are only found in the
Cisco course materials and the Sybex book. They are
not even in the objectives listing, which would seem
very unfair. Other than Rishard's correct indication
of the backplane I would only suggest assuming that

The ONLY reason you need to care about those things (in this case) on the
exam is the fact that they are *on the exam*
Whether they are of great relevance to you or anyone else for that matter is
of little consequence. You want to play the man's game, you play by the
man's rules.

You'll likley fail again.
Lame or not, it's on the test, and you need to know it to pass.

I deal with SNA and Token Ring on an almost weekly basis. A number of big
banks still have this as the mainstay of their network. IPX is still out
there in hundreds of thousands of networks and ATM is a major player as
well. Just because "you" don't deal with these on a regular basis, does not
Cisco is updating CID. You could take the new beta for a low cost of $25.
One has to believe that they improved the test and brought it into the
current millennium. (whether you believe we're in the new one yet or not)

I've said this before, but I'll rant again: this exam sucks like a Hoover. It is, IMNSHO, not relevant to the real world. However, the certification is nice to have, and Robert Padjen's (Sybex) Cisco Internetwork Design is the best preparation
If you got 500 and need 650 do you really think you'll be in a position to
take it on Monday?
Failing never feels good, I've failed an exam a time or two.
But I think you should suck back and reload. If you needed that info this
time what makes you think those questions won't come up again?
I'm sorry to hear about your experience as well. You
are correct that the test's biggest challenge is the
writing and not the material. Given that many concepts
are not on the exam and even more are outdated, it is
not difficult to understand why one would do poorly

Sorry to hear that. For what it's worth, I heard about those vague questions

Agreed - IN SPADES!! I studied the subject material on the objectives list and still managed to fail a few times. Finally I gave up and read an actual study guide that helped word the information the way the test words it (Robert Padjen's CCDA Study Guide by Sybex
