is clearly mentioned that IOS on PIX 501 is the same
as the higher models.

I haven't logged onto 501 yet. But my guess is it is similar to 506, which I
have worked on, and should support same CLI. It supports 3DES as well. It
does support 6.x ios I believe. It definitely looks like a good entry level
PIX product. I heard that is around $600. I think it is great

I do not know the answer either, and plan on picking one up to
train with. However, here is some info that seems to imply that it does
use the standard Cisco Pix Command Line Interface.
