There's nothing wrong with learning some token ring concepts. But you probably want to have some hands on with Ethernet interfaces as well. Other things to do with token ring: set up a linux box to do token ring to ethernet conversion - can double as a firewall - very easy set up a token

Two routers for $1500? or $1500 each? Two token rings will help you as you move toward CCIE. You will be able to play around with things like DLSw+ and such... it could be useful. You will also want to have an Ethernet interface somewhere in your lab. Have you considered new routers? The 1720
