This is a quote from the Boatsafe site:
"the last four characters indicate the month and year the boat was
built, and the model year. Prior to August 1, 1984, the manufacturer
had the option of expressing this in the form of a model year designation. "
I am not sure what is being said here.
As I recall from prior posts on the list, and from reading the explanation
of HINs on the USCG website, there are at least three different schemes for
hull ID numbers that have been used over the years. I believe that the
explanation that Chuck included below is for the current scheme.

My $.02,
This sailing stuff is just a hobby. It's up to the owner to detect and deal
with whatever design or maintenance shortcomings manifest themselves. If
something seems awry, it's up to the owner to decide whether to DIY or hire
out the fix. If it's the latter, then ask around. DIY = fewer pr

If you go to the C&C Photoalbum site and look under C&C designs, you
will see that there were four (4) C&C 32 designs, a, b, c, and

design' had wheel steering.
My 32, HIN ZCC 32 277 M84 D has wheel steering...tha

Character 9 refers to the month..andcharacter 10 the year the

In both of our HIN's, character 9 is 'M'but I can't find any 'M'

So I ask again, what do the 'K' and 'D' stand for.it says be
I think the K means the hull was molded in November.

The first 3 characters are what are referred to as the MIC or Manufacturers
Index Code. There are several sites on the internet that can help you decode
the MIC of your HIN. One such site is through the

Jim,
This sounds like a good plan. I think I might try this. I also like the idea
of taping some plastic sheet under the filter - I may even try taping a ziplock
bag under the filter in such a way that I can drop the used filter straight in
the bag. As always, thanks to all who provided input
Good morning Dwight,
I always include my name in the salutation. And
