Stus-List a general note on hydraulics

When I was dealing with autopilots we frequently needed hydraulic hoses made, pumps fixed, or cylinders fixed. There is nothing magic about them, the local shop that fixed bulldozers and so on had no problem making or fixing anything we needed for a lot less $ than a “marine” shop. Joe Coqui

Hello all, I think I probably have some air trapped in my hot water heater.  I have found some pretty cryptic instructions for the heater, but:  a). They do not include a good drawing or explanation of how the hoses, either fresh water or coolant should be connected (yes I have looked for bette

The rusty lever in the top left is the P&T relief valve. With water aligned pull the lever. When solid water flows, you're done. Josh Muckley S/V Sea Hawk 1989 C&C 37+ Solomons, MD On Thu, May 16, 2019, 5:29 PM Bruce Whitmore via CnC-List < cnc-list@cnc-list.com> wrote: > Hello all, > > I thin

My previous answer was for venting the freshwater side. For the engine coolant side, as long as the heater is below-ish the engine then just run the engine. The coils will flush out the air and the air will accumulate in the engine. After a minute or two of engine run time stop the engine and re

I think you have the following ports visible in your photo: H = Hot Potable Water out of Heater to your hot water taps. C = Cold Potable Water into heater from the potable water pump. D = Drain for emptying the Heater of Potable Water for winterizing. P1 = Pressure Release Valve for an over-pressu

Bruce, The water heater is a pretty basic device. And it seems that all of them (most of them?) look and connect in a similar way. You have cold water in, hot water out (usually cold water lower than hot), pressure relief valve, drain. The coolant in and out can be on the same side (front) or

Hi Marek, You're right on, the only issue in my mind is that the coolant must run from the top of the engine, down under the floorboards to then get to the hot water heater which is above the floorboards, thus causing an inherent desire for the air to form a pocket above the floorboard level bef

Bruce, the engine loop inside the water heater is usually copper with no check valves so it should not matter how it’s connected, it’s just a loop. You can tell which hose is the supply with the engine running, it’s going to be the warmest one. The little bit of air inside the loop will be remov

It is quite possible (and it has happened to mine after changing the water heater) to have a pocket of air on the glycol side that prevents circulation of the glycol. To solve this, remove one end of the hose and fill it with the glycol/water solution and then re-attach the hose. At this point
