HiThe other emails about dirty fuel rings a bell with the issues we have had
this summer.Earlier this year we had problems with the motor dying when idling
down. We suspected dirty fuel, changed the filters but didn't solve the
problem. Ultimately tightening the clamps on the fuel lines solv
Hello
We have a beta engine that has a stalling problem. It started a while ago when
idling. After some investigation and replacing fuel filters to no avail we
found a loose clamp on the fuel line which was letting air in. Problem fixed.
Sort off. It ran well for a while, but then... and t
Hi All
Sort of a weird question, but hopefully someone has some insight.
We have been struggling with where to put solar panels on our C&C 34. We now
think that we will get a couple of flexible panels and leave them free, at
least for now. The plan would be to put them out on the fore deck wh
So if you were following a previous post about dirty fuel and stuffing box here
is where it ended up.
In both cases we believe operator error.
In terms of the dirty fuel the tank wasn't spotless but it wasn't that bad as
was the primary filter. We suspect a two step problem both related to ai
Hello John
Thank-you for the reply. We started with three strands but had the problem of
dripping in idle but not once running and warmed up. So we added another. The
idea being we could loosen it off more but still stop the drip when stopped.
At least that was our logic at the time. Didn't
The other day when motoring the engine quit when pulling into the marina. Got
it going again to make the slip but then it quit again. Repeat a few times.
We thought the most likely culprit was the new fuel gauge not being configured
correctly and had run out of diesel. Second culprit may be

Thanks for the comment. We added a battery, but that was battery number 4 with
3 house and one starter now. But they are lead acid batteries and will only
take so much charge. (Perhaps we should switch to AGM's with thin plates, but
that is another issue.) Our alternator is likely bigger tha
Hi All
Last year after putting in a new Beta engine with a larger alternator (110 amp)
we added an additional battery, a battery monitor, and to use all that power, a
fridge. (Of interest, and not the point of this email, is we went through two
alternators on the boat last summer both on warra

I'm thinking about refinishing the stairs on our C&C 34. Wondering if they are

Hi All
The curtains on our 34 are getting rather old. We would like to replace the
curtains without replacing the mounting hardware that holds them. This, I
think, means getting the right slides to sew onto the head and foot of the
curtains.
Has anyone experience with this? Where did you get
We recently installed one on a 34. We mounted it in the engine room where
other electronic items, wires, etc. are and there is also a large ground
busbar there to make it easy to connect things in an orderly fashion. The
house batteries are about 2 feet away under the quarter berth.
The star
Hello
Last year when we installed a new engine we had the local mechanic do two
things. Align the engine and do the wiring. This is question about the wiring
for people who have the same Blue Sea kit.
To manage the batteries we are using the Blue Sea Dual Circuit Plus 5511e
switch and the 76
Last year I took on a partner on my boat. We had known each other for several
years but were not what I would consider really close friends at that point.
We spent some time writing up an agreement in which we tried to cover all the
issues that we thought could arise in a partnership. This h
Hello all
We plan to convert our icebox into a fridge on our 1981 C&C 34 and are looking
for advice from people who may have done this. For example which unit did you
buy, how has it worked, where did you mount the compressor, did you add
ventilation, how many amps does it use, did you add ins
Thanks to everyone for their help. The cables are out.
It certainly helps to know what you are looking for when you start ripping
things apart.
The only challenge was seized machine screws which we dealt with using
penetrating oil and an impact driver.
We believe this is that last challenge

The secret is how to disconnect the shifter lever from the cable with out

Hi
We are in the process of replacing our old Yanmar 3GMD motor with a Beta. The
old coupler doesn't match the beta and besides it is old. We are looking at a
split shaft coupler from Beta.
We are getting mixed information as to whether the shaft needs to come out of

In Canada the current regulations say:
7.7.1 Every fuel filter or strainer shall be capable of resisting damages by
fire according to the requirements for fuel systems set forth in ABYC Standard
H-24 Gasoline Fuel Systems, paragraph 5.7, unless the filter or strainer is
inside the fuel tank
Hello
I have recently pulled a Yanmar 3GMD 20hp out of my boat in Victoria BC. It is
from 1981 and has 2000 hours on it. The reason it is being replaced is it
started to leak oil from the air intake manifold indicating that there was too
much oil being blown out from the rocker arm cover into
Hi Jim
I had Blackline do mine in 2010. I replaced the rod with wire. They also
installed radar on the mast, replaced corroded spreader tips, etc. Cost was
close to $6,800 minus taxes.
Cheap compared to the cost of the new motor I'm in the process of putting in.
By the way, we followed your
Hi
I previously lamented engine problems on my 1982 C&C 34. I had the original
Yanmar 3GMD. The problem was leaking oil from the intake manifold caused by
serious blow back. There is also a transmission problem, where it doesn't
always go into gear.
So the decision has been made to put a n
Hi
I continue to try and understand what is wrong with my engine without paying
more good money. And I have started looking for a new motor.
First the problem. The engine recently started to leak a fair amount of oil
and to start poorly. We spent a lot of time trying to find exactly where th
Hi
It seems I have a leaking head gasket on my Yanmar engine. It is an old engine
but only has 2,000 hours on it. I'm going to get some quotes on fixing it but
I'm sure it won't be cheap and not sure it won't be a waste on an old engine.
The boat is leaking a fair bit of oil which ends up in
Hello all
I'm looking for a thermostat for a Hillerange oven. It is on our 1981 C&C 34
and it is the brown three burner, model number is 3121 and is also known as the

get our current one rebuilt in Seattle because our
Hi All
On my C&C 34 I have an old brown Hillerange stove. Since I've owned it the
oven has never worked. You can light the pilot light and it will then light
the burner. You close the door and check a bit later and it has gone out.
In contact with a company in Seattle that will still sell pa
Hi
I don't know if you read my earlier email where we were having a related
problem. In our case it ended up being an air leak in the gasket for the
strainer.
We tested everything else. Ran water forward and backwards through the engine
via the hole for the thermostat and the cylinder intake
Hi
I replaced the lens in my hatch a number of years ago and it has been fine ever
since. It wasn't leaking but you could no longer see through it.
The main challenge was getting the knobs off of the top side of the latches in
order to get the old lens out and the new one in. I had to drill o
OK, this is a bit embarrassing. But here are the results.
The original problem was the impeller breaking. In diagnosing that we opened
the strainer and then screwed the lid back down. Reused this gasket. It
leaked air but we didn't know that. The top is above the water line. We

Hello
Today on the first trip out for the weekend on the boat I got about 5 minutes

I asked before if anyone has an electric windlass on a C&C 34. Although I got
great advice no pictures of one mounted on a 34. I'm hoping someone out there

Hello All
Has anyone installed a windlass on a C&C 34? Or something reasonably close.
I no longer have the desire to pull up the anchor by hand and I would
appreciate help from anyone who has done this. Pictures would be really great.
Also, is there any way to search the archives without goi
Hi
I have a 1981 34 with an angled shaft. As mentioned it is to allow the shaft to
come out without dropping the rudder. On my boat I believe it accentuates the
prop walk in reverse. The boat has wicked prop walk, which is definitely not a
feature.

Hi
I have a 1981 C&C 34 which I'm trying to sell, and now am concerned about the
issues on the boat. The biggest one is the moisture in the rudder.
About a foot up from the bottom of the rudder there has been a small quasi
hole, about 1/16th of an inch, for quite a while. When I hauled the bo
