Like I said, our club does NOT require membership fees to take sailing
lessons. If you do want to join, it is $500 first year, $250/yr after that,
and your kids can use the boats for FREE when they aren't o

Would you contact me off-list (ind...@thethomsons.us) Would like to learn more

So is the focus on young people in particular or sailing in general? I suspect
there are more sailors today than ever before. Our proportion to power boaters
may continue to decline but total number of sailors is likely up.
As to young people we may not see them as they are involved in sailing

Hi Fred,
Was this the USA registered Dove (two boats) with

1969 - 1972 or the Canadian registered Dove with
the young family that circumnavigated 1972 - 1979?
I am interested because I bought the Canadian

I am thinking on a completely different track than you guys. I started out as passenger in a sailing canoe, learned to sail on a Sunfish, moved to a Lightning, then Rhodes 19 then OK Dinghy, 505, 470 and on and on. After 40 years of sailing, I started into the keel boat world. Dinghys are great.

Interesting, as I came to sailing NOT through racing, but more from the
cruising side. Like many on this list, it seems, I spent a lot of time seeing
sailboats around and dreaming of maybe someday having one of my own; and yes, I
saw The Dove back in the ‘70s and the romance of that lifestyle m

However, I was taken sailing a total of about 4 times during the course of my

Yes, we need to get younger people into sailing and cruising and racing. How
can that be done?
I noticed at my boatyard or at the dock, I'm probably the youngest boatowner
working on any sailboat and I'll be 60 next summer. There is one 30 year old
