Chuck, I have used MAX Props since the mid 80’s including multiple Hawaii crossings. (Full disclosure, I have known Frederic Laffitte one of PYI’s owners since before PYI was a company and have sailed over 20K offshore miles with him.) I echo the comments regarding PYI’s recommendations,

Here is an update on my MAX prop. I took it to PYI, the estimate came back needing the following parts, blades, hub, and all gears. Basically I will keep my original housing and get a "new" prop out of the deal for 2/3 the cost of a new prop. I should have it back by the middle of next week. --

I have a 3 blade Maxprop as well. It has worked well in forward and reverse. Has anyone figured out a way to check its feathering action? I presume it is feathering when sailing, but don’t know how to tell. The only thing I can think of would be to sail to the mooring and then dive.

We went from 3 blade fixed to 3 blade max prop a couple of years ago. Huge difference sailing as expected and I think it backs and fills better than with the fixed prop. I am considering pitching it slightly heavier on the next haul out this winter based on info on this fantastic forum.
