Chuck, thanks ever so much for the excellent article on the Universal
diesel engine harness upgrade. Alianna has an M4-30 which has exactly
the engine panel shown in the photo and the wiring harness is also as
described. I have noticed a low charging voltage so I removed the
alternator and had it
Chuck,
My 35-1 with an A4 is wired that way, though without the connectors.
Appears to have been that way for 40+ years. At least Universal is
consistent. Not sure I see a particular problem with it (without the
connectors), as long as the wire size to/from the ammeter is adequate

My read is that the shunt is in the ammeter itself. Thus all the current
must travel to/from the alternator through the ammeter to the user(s).
Most ammeters these days use an external shunt and only small signal wires
to/from the ammeter.
The recommended fix looks fine. He's a knowledgeable gu
I cut the connectors and directly butt spliced the wires together since I had
no plans to need to pull the harness apart. If I ever had to replace the
engine, those harnesses are the least of my problems. Dave

Hello from already snowy Michigan.
Seems the 1990 M-35 I have for power in my boat is, well, not really
designed well in the wiring department. I have read stuff describing it as
"dangerous" to "fatal" and worse. There appear to be two related issues:
First, that the harness is not capable of the
