the second time in 3-4 years. I have other friends with Yanmars who have never

'U' shaped piece you took off to clean or did you remove the whole
assembly via the 4 bolts from the exhaust manifold?
If it was only the actual 'U' shaped mixing elbow, how did you remove it
from the 'coupler'

Unless he is revving the engine at some point, carbon is building up and
never getting blown out. The Yanmar procedure for shut down on my 3GM is
to idle for 5 minutes, then rev the engine to full throttle for several
seconds before returning to idle and shutting down.

BTW, looking up into the elbow may not show the pluggage. I usually find the
pluggage is more in the small elbow where the water enters. It's also in the
"cup" in the upsweep side of the mix elbow wh

Lake sailing, so out of the mooring field and sails up. Never gets a chance to
warm up.
First season I had the boat, the water just dribbled out the exhaust. Doing the
easy stuff first I unscrewed the small water elbow on top of the mixing elbow.

I removed the whole assembly. The main passage of the "U" shaped piece (mix
elbow) was clear.
Here's the whole deal. First I cranked the engine to verify no water
discharge. Then I pulled the manifold water hose from small elbow. Seeing
flow there, I knew the pump, heat exchanger, man
