This morning, just after 7 am, there was a Least Flycatcher at the
Broomfield Nature Area (otherwise known as Alexx and Michael's Pond). It was
singing (chbek chbek chbek) on the west side of the pond. It was nice to hear
some vocalization so that I didn't have to write down unknown empid.

I checked out DeWeese Reservoir (Custer County) today and found some of the
same birds reported by Rich Miller. I was only able to find Yellow Warblers

reservoir and found a *Chestnut-sided Warbler*, *Northern Parula *and up t
John Stump, Jerry Poe and myself did our annual San Luis Valley Big Day
yesterday. Fortunately, we did it on the first pleasant, non-windy day in about
a week (planned by luck!). Owling started it off at 4:00 am. We saw some great
birds too.

I saw a wood-pewee that had a mostly all orange lower mandible, that Eastern
Wood-Pewees typically have. The bird also was very "vested" like Western
Wood-Pewees. Since the bird was vested, and I thought the bird w

In answer to Brandon's query:
Yes and Yes
Eastern Wood-Pewees can occasionally look pretty vested, and Western
Wood-Pewees can sometimes have mostly or entirely pale undersides to their
mandibles. Such dilemmas have twice caused me to follow pewees around for 30+
minutes in e. Wash
Greetings All,
Pulling out migrants around Grand Junction today was like trying to find hen's
teeth.
The long-staying Black-chinned Sparrow(s) in Colorado Nat'l Monument, Devil's
Kitchen Trail were seen roughly between 2 and 4 pm (and perhaps at other times
today). Basically, the bird(s) were
Thanks to Steve for this information. I guess this Wood-Pewee probably can't
be identified for sure, since it didn't call. Hopefully Colorado birders don't
identify a Wood-Pewee as an Eastern Wood-Pewee if they find a silent spring
Wood-Pewee with a orange lower mandible, that also has a vest,
Hi all,
The Indigo Bunting has been singing loudly from one of my cottonwood trees
all weekend. I was hoping to hear the Lazuli Bunting for comparison, but
evidently it has left. The Indigo's song is noticeably "sweeter" and less
buzzy than the Lazuli's. I have also heard the distinct Indigo B
I just saw an e-bird report from Mesa County of a Black-tailed Gnatcatcher on
May 20th. Is this real, this species is NOT on the Colorado State List? Are
there photos? Or did someone enter the wrong species again to e-bird.

Spent a wonderful day watching the Bobolinks...we think there were around 12

local birders.

COBirders,
This posting is a day late as I was not able to post till now. Bear Creek
Regional Park in El Paso County had its spring bird count on Saturday, May 21.
This foothills/riparian park produced a few good birds. Just over 70 species
were observed on count day. Best birds included
Hi Everyone--
On my way back from KS and OK, I stopped at a few migrant traps. Late on
5/21, I stopped at the Holly Rest Area. A male Black-and-white Warbler was
in the olive where the entrance road splits. Sunday morning 5/22, I went to
Lamar Community College. A roost of about 20 Turkey Vultures
I returned to Temple Grove along the Ft Lyon Canal north of Lamar this
morning as I thought I likely missed one or more neotropical migrants
yesterday. I was rewarded by finding what looked like a female American
Redstart--but it was singing. While I have read that female American
Redstarts do so
