Upon request, I have photos of a Louisiana Waterthrush from Central Park,

Thanks, Larry, for posting your warm invitation to this great and growing
annual RMBO August tradition!
The Barbecue will be at the Old Stone House, which is close to Barr Lake.
In addition to the many events you mentioned, I am looking forward to the

CObirders,
I drove to the lake late yesterday from Louisville and arrived before 7 pm
only to find the gate down! The website for Manitou Lake says dawn to
dusk. I parked illegally on Hwy. 67 (a little pull-off) and crawled
through the fence into the park. Upon reaching the willow carr, I was
Also, here is a map link showing where to park and the location of the
Brewster's Warbler from yesterday. Hope this helps alleviate any ambiguity
in my written description.

Jeff's great images strongly suggest that the Brewster's Warbler is a
very rare F2 backcross (4 reported instances at the time of publication of
Peterson's guide) or a bird that has resulted from the mating between two
F1 hybrids (Golden-winged x Blue-winged Warbler).

Hi COBirders,
To tag onto Mike Henwood's report on the Blue Grosbeak fledging I have an
anecdote, as well.
In August 2009 I helped Brian Gibbons at Chico Basin Ranch at the RMBO banding
station (El Paso Co). We opened August 31 that year. I don't have the exact
date, (but I don't think it
As many of you have heard, we are experiencing a high level of West Nile
transmission to humans this season. Interestingly, we have not seen reports of
bird die-offs as we did during the initial emergence of the virus. If anyone
on the list has information to the contrary, we would be quite
I have been volunteering at the Wild Bird Rehab Center and they have been
seeing large numbers of crows coming in with West Nile virus. Most of them
die. There are also chickadees and other birds being brought in with the
virus. Debbie Strimple has difficulty getting the powers that be to be
Hi SeEtta,
I'm sure there's herd immunity, but the question of evolution- whether the
'bottleneck' event we saw in prior years has conferred immune vigor to
subsequent generations? I'd leave that to Nick Komar to address...
Cheers,
Jim

Steve Mlodinoff just phoned me to report this bird. Go to the parking near
the dam at the Outlet Canal
at the south end of Jackson. Walk east along the dam face, which curves to
the north, then back
to the east (10 minute or less walk). At about marker 18 scan to the
north about a half mile away.
Over the past few days, I've noticed two dead Chickadees in my southwestern
Weld County yard. Both were at the base of large trees. I didn't report them
though. I figured that if more showed up, then I would. We have quite a few
Chickadees in our are, but not as many as we used to have.

I decided to take another run at Prewitt today, as my last trip out there was
something of a bust. This time of year, a week or so can make a lot of
difference. I started working my way northeast from the outlet canal, and the
Russian olive thicket yielded immediate results. This small grove
Greetings All,
So, I started today at Crow Valley in the drizzle -- excellent fallout
conditions, only there wasn't a fallout. Indeed, birds from Western Kingbird to
Barn Swallow to Wilson's Warblers seem to arrive at the south end and proceed
north. Migrant passerines will sometimes
