I posted on Saturday about a feeding frenzy of warblers (Yellow-rumps and a
few Orange-crowned and Wilson's and a Townsend's) that day. I noticed that
leaves on the cottonwood trees where they were feeding had several
yelllowish blotches on them. When I looked at the leaves closely it

COBirders,
Brad Tyler and I spend most of the day at Fountain Creek Regional Park,
with a short stop at Big Johnson Res. When we saw birds, we saw a whole
bunch of birds and the birding was fantastic. We could hardly keep up with
all the movement. At other times it was very quiet and slow. I d

Cobirders,
I got some pretty good shots of a banded White-tailed Ptarmigan hen on
Mount Evans August 28th. I learned of Clait Braun’s research on these birds
from Brad Andres, Joe Roller and Joyce Gellhorn, so I wrote Dr. Braun. I was
delighted to get a response today and thought you might
Greetings All,
I unexpectedly was not needed at Estes Park clinic today (actually, too many
providers in, so no rooms available for seeing patients).
Estes Park (Lake Area) was dull bird wise, but was impressive with the
trumpeting bull Elk with some nice rack-clashes.

Hi Birders. I had a Mountain Chickadee in my backyard yesterday. He
appeared to be by himself, feeding on peanut splits. I suspect he may have
been a first year, as the cap on top of his head was not completely filled
in with black; there was a small white patch in the center of his black
cap.
This was the weirdest morning of the season: Started cloudy but not cold,
then wind and drizzles (opened, closed, then reopened all nets), then just
overcast eventually becoming partly sunny. Only banded 20 birds, but those
20 included a Tennessee Warbler (2nd of season) and a BAY-BREASTED WARBLE
Cobirders:
Monday 9/24/12 was a busy morning banding at Clear Springs Ranch (CSR).*
We had to close the nets at 8:30a because we were overwhelmed with birds.
We banded 47 new birds of 11 different species.
We had 2 recaptures from earlier this Fall.

I saw and photographed the Blackburnian warbler, Black phoebe, and
Eastern phoebe at the Florence river park on
Sunday. Thanks to all of the folks who helped confirm the Blackburnian ID
and to SeEtta for showing me the Eastern phoebe location.

Hi COBirders,
Full report to follow.
A good morning - about 45 birds banded, most caught just after sunrise. Birds
of note today: an OVENBIRD (hatch-year), and two more Rose-breasted Grosbeak
adult females today, after having two others on Saturday.
There were more sparrows and kinglets than

I spent the morning today with 4 other birders from Fort Collins Audubon

south entrance at the outlet canal. The walk was longer, but we were able to
cover the southeast quadrant of the lake, which is where most of t
Hello, Birders.
I just saw and heard a Field Sparrow (presumably of the expected western
subspecies Arenacea) at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County. The bird was with
many Chipping Sparrows and a few Orange-crowned Warblers at the southeast
corner of the preserve (i.e., near the north shore of

Hi Bill et al.:
The bird is decidedly a Blackburnian. Though the upperparts picture is blown
out (overexposed), the white braces are still obvious. Additionally, Blackpoll
would never show any hint of orange below, and in fall is decidedly greenish
there.
Good job, Bill.

Hi all:
Since most of the In The Scope columns from Colorado Birds are now posted on
the CFO website (http://cfobirds.org/birding/journal.htm#inTheScope) and since
there seems to be a rash of good and not-so-good reports of Horned Grebes in
the state right now, I thought that it might be a goo
