Hello, Birders.
Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, April 17th, Hannah and Andrew and I enjoyed a
dramatic 120 seconds of birding at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County:
* At 4:37 p.m., during the period of peak intensity of yesterday's winter
storm, we came upon a flock of 14 beautiful Mountain Blu
On our way home from seeing the longspurs of eastern Boulder County, we
were surprised to see three additional McCown's Longspurs with a flock of
Horned Larks on the Larimer section of Blue Mountain Road. They were along
the road between Colard Lane and Spring Gulch Drive.

In my suburban neighborhood, I somehow get almost no sparrows in spring,
unless a small flock of chippings comes by. The fall is different, with good
stays by white-crowneds, and some visits by chippings, Brewer's, and clay
colored. But I have had a nice Lincoln's sparrow in the yard for the pa
Only three McCown's this morning at 7am and Horned Lark numbers are way

As of 8:30 this morning, large numbers of McCown's, a few Chestnut-collared,
and a Lapland on 115th south of Oxford. Four hours of missing Lapland
yesterday and 5 minutes with success today. There's a bit if luck involved in
this game.

My route to work was Hwy 85 to Ault and across to Fort Collins.
Between Nunn and Ault HUGE flocks of Horned Larks line the road. I
stopped for one flock saw 5 Chestnut-collareds and 4 McCown's among
hundreds of Horned Larks. Didn't have time to stop "every 5 minutes"
with new flocks appearing ...
Well if one male McCown's Longspur along west fishing road makes a fallout.
Also present were Horned Larks and a Mountain Plover standing in the snow.
Just saw an Orange-crowned Warbler in Rock Canyon in the Osprey Picnic Area.

I photographed the FOY Lesser Goldfinch male at my thistle feeder this
morning. I had just replaced last fall's seed with fresh last week cuz they
won't eat rancid seed. Then I heard a Western Meadowlark singing from a
neighbor's crab apple tree and it flew to one little spot on the dark roof

Most birds on the side of the road were not Horned Larks or longspurs.
Oxford had the best number of Horned Larks, but late afternoon it gets too
busy to stop onthe side of the road.

We will meet at the East Boulder Rec. Center at 7:30 am as planned, then
decide by

If longspurs are still being seen on Friday, we could try to see them and
then
go to Walden/Sawhill for more birding.

Hi All,
Between 3 and 5 this afternoon Rec Trail was very active. Seems to be good right after bad weather. Heard but couldn't find SANDHILL CRANES. Saw lots of loud Crows, Ravens, Gulls (lots of Franklin's and some I couldn't ID), MOUNTAIN and WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, 2 WHITE-FACED IBIS, YELLOW-R
Hello cobirders!
Just wanted to join the group that has been seeing Longspurs associated with
the large Horned Lark flocks in Boulder County. I had my best views north of

I had unknowingly joined in the Long-Spur-A-Paloosa on 4/16. I had to make
a trip to Loveland on that day and stopped at Boyd Lake State Park. I had
never birded this park and the snow was of great assistance with well over
100 mtn bluebirds feeding on the side of the roads. I also had a fly-o
Right at Overland Park Pond (corner of Florida Avenue and the Platte River), I

Please send me some details about where you plan to go, when you will
return, etc, so I can make an informed choice about going. I have not heard.
Maybe I missed the memo.
Many thanks,

Birders,
This morning I went to Red Rocks to try for the Fox Sparrow again. This
time I had success. I got there at 8 am and the sparrow made his first
appearance at 8:05. He showed up again a few minutes later and then put in
a cameo when Dick Schottler arrived.
No Golden-crowned Sparrow.

I found 15 or more Hermit Thrushes in less than 15 minutes in only a
hundred feet in and around the Sell's Lake parking area for the Canon City
Riverwalk. I subsequently found 2 more Hermit Thrush almost 3 miles east
of there near the McKenzie Ave parking area for the Riverwalk plus one more

It was a chilly, calm day after the storm today in Huerfano County. With
12-15 inches of fresh snow on the ground decided it would be a great day to

Veta Town Lakes. There were a few shorebirds, several large mixed flocks o
