I stopped by Big Johnson today around 9:00 AM to see if I could find the
Common Tern. I didn't find the tern but a Pacific Loon was not far off the
dirt parking area with a group of Western Grebe.

Late May reports of Black-bellied Plover are unusual (except for this year
with its retarded spring migration),
and early June is late.
There was one BB Plover in breeding plumage on the austral mudflats at
Cherry Creek reservoir this morning.
I saw a few avocets and killdeer, but no other
Hi all,
The Black Swifts (at least six) I saw earlier this morning west of the Valco
Ponds parking lot in Pueblo, were still flying around as of 9:50am. Margie Joy
and I were still seeing them, from the Rock Canyon side of the river at that
time, with lots of Cliff Swallows. Also, on the
Things were a bit quieter than last week at Fountain Creek Regional Park
this morning. Most of the migrants seem to have moved on, and I couldn't
find any traces of last week's Blackpolls or Yellow-throated Vireo. We did
find one American Redstart, however - a first summer male with a bit of

Mary Cay and Tom Burger and I birded our way out to Cortez on May 15,
stopping at Antero and other spots. We toured fascinating Mesa Verde on the

This morning the Boulder Bird Club hosted 1st Sunday Birding at
Walden and Sawhill ponds. The bird of the day was a male Rose-
breasted Grosbeak singing from the bushes. Then it flew over the
trail and landed in a cottonwood tree so everyone had a good look at
it. We found it in the
Cole Wild called at 2:15 PM, today, Sunday, May 2nd, to report a
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron in the bed of Frenchman's Creek, just
below the Lions' Fishing Hole in eastern Holyoke, Phillips County,
Colorado. There are no previous
records of this night-heron for Phillips County, according to the CFO
Cole Wild phoned me again, this time to report a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher,
Gray-cheeked Thrush, Veery,
Rose-breasted Grosbeak and American Redstart, as his productive day in
metropolitan Holyoke continues. This suite
of goodies was also in the bed of mighty Frenchman's Creek, farther
upstream,
A Loudlly singing Red-eyed Vireo was heard about 10:30 am in a cottonwood
tree where 61st St. jogs east and crosses the St. Vrain river. Just north
of the crossing, 61st becomes 63rd St., which then heads north. The area
is ~0.5 mi. north of Hygiene Rd. and ~0.5 mi. south of McCall Reservoir.
It was as if the birds were sending us a message, telling us that our spring
season should end. Absolutely slowest day of the season - caught only 4 new
birds;
Cordilleran Flycatcher1
Swainson's Thrush 1
Yellow Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
It will be a couple of weeks
Hello, Birders.
It's a truism for Colorado birders, but it bears repeating: You never know what
to expect in early June.
Early this Sunday morning, June 2nd, at the southwest corner of Gun Barrel
Hill, Boulder County, I saw a female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD, a species not usually
seen in the Boulder
At about 8:15, when we got out of our car at the Chico Basin bird banding
area, the male Golden-Winged Warbler that was found yesterday by Brandon
Percival and Bill Maynard was singing vigorously from the nearby elms.
Actively feeding in the mid and high levels, and he did show an affinity for
The northeast Colorado plains are beautiful and green right now, and I had
the pleasure of spending the day in Phillips, Sedgwick, Logan, and Weld
Counties. One of the highlights was a PHILADELPHIA VIREO high in the trees
in the park on the northeast side of Haxtun. I hope to provide a
Made two long visits to Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins (Larimer) today. In
the there's still stuff going on category:
Found another Broad-tailed Hummingbird nest today, this one in the southwest
corner, probably the same female that has nested in that area the last couple
years. Unlike
