Unexpected time off and beautiful weather provided another opportunity to
enjoy migration on the plains. Orange-Crowed Warblers were widespread,
seen during every stop. Yellow-Rumped Warblers were seen during most
stops, sometimes in small numbers, sometimes in very large numbers.

Hi.
Just wanted to thank anyone who responded to any requests for info and
looked at the blog.
I'm leaving the site now. Nothing to report, high pressure seems to have
slowed things down for now.
Wishing all you a very bird filled rest of the year.
Thanks and goodbye.
Laurence Pitcher.
Ted et al,
OK, I have another pondering. The summer resident Chimney Swifts that nest in
several of the brick chimneys in Old Town (i.e., downtown) Fort Collins appear
to leave every year in either late July or early August. During my walk down
there last night on 2October at 6:45 to enjoy
Driving in Boulder yesterday at around 4 pm, there was a (what seemed to me to
be a little late) Turkey Vulture soaring over the intersection of Valmont and
30th. Also of note in Boulder, the lovely lot to the north of Chez Thuy on
20th and Mapleton, which has been a great place to observe
Went out east primarily to look for sparrows.
Stopped first at Flagler. Fairly quiet below the dam. A couple of Virginia
rails and marsh wrens still present. Water level is very low.

Wagon Wheel CG Almost no migrants. Best thing accomplished was giving a

Hi all,
The first part of this week yielded a few more birds than last week (mostly
American Robins and White-crowned Sparrows). Today I caught the first
Audubon's Warbler of this fall at this station, which was exciting. Here's
a summary:
Monday, 9/30/13: Total - 6
Black-capped Chickadee - 1
An adult bald eagle flew over my car this morning at 7:05 AM as I was
sitting at the intersection of Kipling and Quincy in Littleton/Lakewood.
She/he flew west to east, directly over Quincy, into the rising sun.
Seems a bit early for a northern migrant, but it did get the carpool's
At about 8am this morning, I observed a single Evening Grosbeak visit the
feeders on my deck. Later in the day, while working in my yard at around 5pm,
there were 3 Evening Grosbeaks on my deck/feeders. This is the first time I’ve
observed EVGRs at my house since the winter of 2009-2010, when
Greetings -
This afternoon, just before 5pm, while working in my garden, I heard
the familiar call of Sandhill Cranes. I grabbed my binoculars and
managed to get a rough count of about 90 birds heading south above the
Colorado Blvd area in Denver before they flew out of sight.
I believe they
I saw a small flock of six Sandhill Cranes this past Tuesday (1 October),
flying over Wetmore, in Custer County. Up at 9,050 feet in elevation in the
Wet Mountains, in Custer County, yesterday (2 October), I saw three Blue Jays
coming to a feeder (rare at this elevation). Always a highlight
COBirds,
Stopped by Grandview Cemetary in Fort Collins this afternoon 4:30-5:10pm. The
previously reported Northern Parula was feeding in the same psyllid-infested
hackberry tree at the northeast corner of cemetary section #1. Was feeding very
sluggishly and only glimpsed it thrice in about 5
COBirders,
I made a brief stop at Sombrero Marsh/Pond this evening at 6:00 (Marsh Wren
is now my nemesis BOCO bird...) What I found instead was a large flock of
Common Grackles - probably 500+ - roosting in the reeds on the far side of
the pond and in a few of the surrounding trees. As I scanned
Out birding on furlough day #3!
Found these birds at FCNC.

I found a WOOD THRUSH in Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City today. I got
photos showing it's white eyering, white (not buffy) underparts with black
spots extending well down the flanks and short tail. I believe this is a
record for Fremont County. I have uploaded the photos onto my Birds and
On 10/1, Gwen Moore and I birded a bit at Jackson and Prewitt Reservoirs.
I specifically was looking for a Sabine's Gull. Usually when I specifically
look for a certain bird, I don't always find it. At Prewitt
reservoir[Washington Co.], I looked at many Gulls bobbing in the water , when
