Larry, on a very foggy May 26 night in the mid to late 1970s, I lived in
Denver at 200 South Cherry, in the Hilltop neighborhood. I heard a
poorwill which I then saw sitting (and calling) on the roof across the
street (north) from my house. I would have to look up the exact year.

Sorry, I assumed the CPER was a well-known spot. It's in Weld County, 10
minutes north of Nunn, just off Hwy 85. Let me know if you'd like a more
precise description. It's about 45 minutes northeast of Ft. Collins and
1.5 hrs north of Denver proper.

On Sat, May 23,
I got some good looks at a male Chestnut-sided Warbler around 10 am in
CCSP, south of the Lake Loop, between the bike path and the lake, flitting
around in the Cottonwoods. Thanks to Doug and Mike for directing me to the
bird.

Hi all,
I helped with the DFO Field Trip today around Pueblo, I ended with 92 species
of birds, though I started at 630am, the group appeared around 800am. We also
saw a Tiger Salamander in Pueblo City Park.

Nice morning of banding, with lots of human visitors - everyone thrilled to
see the sun for the first time in days! We were only able to open part of
the station plus the Nature Center because of water issues, but still
managed to capture 31 new birds for the season:
Least Flycatcher 1 (FOS)
We are enjoying a nice visit in the Estes Park area in Larimer County. This
afternoon we drove slowly through Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park
watching and listening for birds. We spotted a small, stub-tailed wren at the
base of a bush right by the road. It was a very pale gray
This morning, I woke up early and headed over to Crow Valley Campground.
When I got there I was greeted with a sign that said, Road Closed. No
Camping or Walk-ins. My mood changed when I read a post from John Shenot that
he found a Golden-winged Warbler in Butterfly Woods. I thought my
Hi CoBirders

Just a heads-up to everybody, a common denominator I am seeing in person and in
looking at photographs taken by others: a lot of insectivorous neotropical
migrants, as this spring migration peaks, are finding Boxelder (Acer negundo)
to be a good restaurant. The reason is a small caterpillar
Dear Fellow birders,
As you know, the diversity of species in Colorado right now is very high, and
Larimer County has been particularly blessed with rarities in recent days. With
recent reports of rare warblers, vireos, Flycatcher's, gulls, etc., even more
eyes will be out in Larimer County
Good day all!
I have never wanted the rain to go away so badly. At the same time, I do
believe that the rain is the reason for this post. I just wanted to post a
recap for my birding in and around Fort Collins this week. This is going
down as the best week I've ever had birding in Fort
If this is a Big Day that you are submitting to ABA as an official big day, it
would be breaking their rules to read cobirds, look at ebird reports, or get
direct information from people while doing an official ABA big day. I am not
sure any recent big days actually keep to these rules.

Hi, All!
The Central Plains Experimental Range nest monitoring field season got off
to a slow start this week. There are tons of birds around, but we weren't
able to work outside most days due to rain. On the days that we did get
out (Monday and Thursday), we covered a lot of ground but found
Hi Cobirders,
Last night just before dark I heard the unmistakable call of a Common
Poorwill for a few minutes at my home in SE Ft. Collins. It was so close
and loud, we first heard it inside the house! Although I've
seen/photographed them here before, this was the first time I've heard

This morning I went birding along the Lee Martinez and Poudre Bike trail
junction heading west. At the junction I had a Broad-winged Hawk calling
and another one about 100 feet west of there. The second BWHA individual
seemed to have a squirrel but flew off as a Blue Jay harassed it.

I found this bird at butterfly woods at the south end of the bridge.

When my uncle Van and I use to do Big Days, there were not cell phones back
then. So this wasn't a problem. If we happened to run into other birders
during our big day route, we tried our best not to get bird information
from them, since we were trying to obey the ABA Big Day rules. I don't
