Fountain Creek Regional Park was very slow for migrants yesterday (too warm,
sunny?).
Amongst the migrant dribble, I did have moving through a first year, light
phase Broad-winged Hawk.

I went over to Golden Ponds today hoping to catch any late migrants or
birds just starting migration. Here were the highlights-
Possible Cackling Goose: in a flock Canada Geese looked much smaller as it
flew over but I couldn't refind it in any of the ponds.
Wood Duck: Female in the private lake
Well, I have had a few replies, and the most common suggestion is that it
is a first-year Herring Gull. It does look very much like one of the
photos on allaboutbirds.org, so I have no reason to doubt that this is a
pretty solid ID.
I don't remember where I saw it, but I completely agree
Slow day before the storm - wind off and on probably didn't help. Nice
range of birds but only 14 banded:

This afternoon, I spent some time in the back of my yard, looking for a
small song bird that I'd earlier seen up in the trees. That was probably a
House Finch, but the leaf litter below those trees was busy. Moving in
after a Spotted Towhee was a White-throated Sparrow, both scratching around

We finished up the 2017 season on Friday after a bit of a rollercoaster
week. We started the week well with 61 and 62 birds banded on Monday and
Tuesday but followed it up with only 7 birds on Wednesday as rain forced us
to close the nets after 45 minutes. Thursday
