Today, I went to Chatfield to hopefully see the jaegers found by Myron Gerhard
on Sunday afternoon. We were able to identify 2 Long-tailed (one light and 1
intermediate juvenile) and 1 Parasitic Jaeger(dark juvenile) on the same body

Hi everyone, my name is Adam Cupito and I am a bird bander for the Bird
Conservancy of the Rockies. I will be operating 2 banding stations on the
Western Slope this Fall! Our current banding site is located at the Dallas
Creek Area of Ridgway State Park, and has just completed its first week.
Quite a find! I will cast another vote for juvenile Long-tailed Jaeger.
A few other features not previously mentioned:
1. Juvenal plumage thanks to all those pale tips to the upperwing coverts;
plus the barring on the undertail coverts
2. Barring on the upper and undertail coverts is thick, bold
Folks,
There has been some exciting birds at Chatfield both yesterday and today!
Three jaegers have been offering good study for those who are patient and
interested. Photos of all three birds identify them to two species.
Long-tailed Jaeger and Parasitic Jaeger. Tony Leukering promises
There will be a field trip to Chatfield SP on Thursday, Sept 13 meeting at
5:30 pm at the Marina Sandspit. Maybe we will find a jaeger, or maybe
something else as we focus on interesting waterbirds that may turn up
around now... Sabine's or other rare gulls, Red Phalarope, or?
I will post when
According to Sibley, only the Long-tailed shows the crisp white barring and
only on juveniles.

We went out on a boat this morning (Mark Chavez, Frank Farrell, Gwen Moore)
and got up-close photos. Many are looking at those photos now and being
quite perplexed. I hope the one I included here is displayed OK. As noted,
3 birds - 2 hang out really close together, and the 3rd also fairly
Today was the busiest day of the season yet, mostly due to Wilson's
Warblers. I banded 55 new birds of 14 species. Four new species were added
to the season's total today: Blue Grosbeak, Western Tanager, Red-naped
Sapsucker, and Black-headed Grosbeak.
Here is the summary of newly banded birds
Looking at 3 jaegers from sand spit. They are hanging around the dam.

Hey COBirders,
I banded a late juv Northern Waterthrush this morning at Clear Spring Ranch,
#16 for the season. I’ve only had two after this date in 7 falls.
The Spizella flock has mostly moved on, finally. I still caught 20 Chipping
Sparrows, 4 Clay-colored Sparrows, and a single Brewer’s
With limited time I need all the help I can get from CObirds updates.

Agree with juv Long-tailed Jaeger. Looks like white on the upper wing is
limited to the two outer primary shafts.
