[cobirds] Larimer County-probably no point at all...

2019-06-12 Thread 'ronbco' via Colorado Birds
Speaking of nighthawks I was birding near Crow Valley with my son last week. A few nighthawks we’re flying, we saw 2 still snoozing in trees and on a post, even just an hour before sunset. We were hunting for a visual of some singing bird and once we found it, a mockingbird, we were

Eric and all, On Sunday, June 9, I also encountered a singing Grace’s Warbler in Spanish Peaks SWA on my Cokedale breeding bird survey route. The bird I heard was just south of the SWA headquarters buildings, no more than a mile northeast of Eric’s bird. Given the fast-paced BBS protocol, I

2019-06-12 Thread Eric DeFonso
Hi folks, At the end of my very birdy survey this morning, I encountered a singing Grace's Warbler at the parking area of the Spanish Peaks SWA "Beebe" trailhead, which is about 16 miles up various county roads from the CO 12 turnoff, and about 22 miles total NW from Trinidad. It was singing

[cobirds] Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Harriman Lake (Jeffco)

2019-06-12 Thread Dave Cameron
I heard the unmistakable sound of two "singing" (ok, "vocalizing") male Yellow-headed Blackbirds in the cat-tails on the East end of Harriman Lake (Kipling and Quincy) just now. Was finally rewarded with a good look at one of them when it was driven off its patch by one of the hundreds of

About a week ago in the evening near dusk, I was in the garden and about 10 or so nighthawks flew low overhead to the southwest. I have not seen any since but have been looking. They used to appear flying overhead midsummer, maybe 1-3, as we dined on the back porchunmistakable fliers.

Hi Josh, I am curious of the nighthawks as well. I had not seen or heard a single one this year until about two days ago. Now they are buzzing around my neighborhood in Milliken the last couple evenings, vocal and all. I simply hope it is that they have fledged young and are out and about.
