Hey, birders.
Hannah Floyd and I enjoyed a nice ramble along the Fowler and Goshawk Ridge
trails, near El Dorado Springs, southern Boulder County, yesterday,
Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Wonderful weather: partly sunny, not too hot,
with a few sprinkles; very little wind.

Hi all Cobirders
For those unfamiliar with e-bird rarity alerts, here, above and below,

I hope the non-ebirders on the group find this sample useful

As I was explaining to John, if you follow the instructions in my post you
can setup county rare bird alerts and needs alerts through eBird so in the
cases you mentioned you would get a notification. The alerts will tell you
of any bird flagged by eBird as rare in the given location if it is a
I have that exact same question. Also, I'm no ebird wizard, but I use it
to look up specific species and recent sightings, mostly when travelling.
But unless I know that a certain species has already been reported in a
certain county, how will I know? If they're unexpected, I won't know to
John, you may want to set up an eBird rare bird alert for your county on
your account. When you login from a computer, click on My eBird, and
scroll down until on the lower right you see Manage My Alerts. Click on
that. Type in your county on the Rare Bird Alerts and/or Needs Alerts and

Yes thank you Joe and all who contributed their time to keeping the RBA
current, and easy to use. It was a concise summation of birds happening in
our State. Even though I rarely chase any more, it was so helpful to know
what was being seen around the State.
During the pandemic, I took it
I also want to thank especially Joyce and Joe but all the other compilers over
all these years (all of which I unfortunately for me can remember) for their
hard work and dedication! Sorry to see the RBA go! Bill Fink Longmont

Thanks to all who have contributed in the past to RBA reports. It was a great
source of information for the sightings within Colorado. And, it was greatly
appreciated. I understand, that without volunteers, its impossible to
continue. So, I would like to thank all those who contributed
Hi
I like the RBA on Cobirds. With one quick click and I immediately get a quick
snapshot of what its going on in our state. The RBA is much more than just rare
birds. It also includes out of season and out of range reports, unusually high
counts. For example today there were six Black Swifts
One suggestion I might offer to those missing the RBA and not finding eBird
rare bird alerts quite a perfect substitute -
You might consider your local birding community starting a WhatsApp group.
Someone graciously started one awhile ago for my area and people share
interesting sightings there
Joe, Joyce, all volunteers who have done the RBA, a hearty thankyou is the
least that you deserve. Much appreciated and avidly read over the years by
hundreds, nay thousands of birders, in state, and from far beyond.
E-bird offers a replacement of sorts, and I won't go into the benefits, nor
Thanks so much for all you and the others hae done for birds and birding
over the years.

Hi all
I was quite surprised to find a Bobolink on the Pawnee NG yesterday. I
drove my "Longspur Hot Spot Route" to see if I could get any more new
arrivals.
- Bobolink (1) singing up a storm at Weld CR 45/114 it preferred the NW
corner (taller grasses) and fence line on south and
Hi All,
Yesterday Ric Olson and I hit a few spots in NE CO. Of Interest we had an Alder
Flycatcher and two Blackpoll Warblers at the Ovid woods in Sedgwick cnty. We
had a White-rumped Sandpiper at Jumbo Res in the Sedgwick cnty portion. We also
had 16 Dickcissels in a field along Sedgwick cnty
Daily updates on rare and interesting birds in Colorado have been shared
via Cobirds for over 14 years as the "Colorado Rare Bird Alert" (or
Report). For 13 years, Joyce Takamine tirelessly compiled this list of
rarities from all over the state, posting it with dates and places
on the Cobirds
I had a Yellow Billed Cuckoo at Richmil Ranch Open Space in Arapahoe County
as well.

Today I noticed that there was no RBA and that there is talk of
discontinuing the RBA. Why is this? Why stop now? Was it causing a problem?
As someone who gets both the ebird and cobird alerts I find that the
cobirds is more thorough and detailed. It would be very disappointing to
see it be
Hi Alison,
I’m sort of a lurker on CoBirds and enjoy reading RBA, but mostly I like the
stories people tell and alerts to first of season birds and migration notes. So
I would miss RBA if it is discontinued, but I hope CoBirds will evolve and keep
going. Thank you for all you have done and are
Steve, thanks for the contact information. Would it be worthwhile to
contact our Governor as well? Pam
