The lake can be viewed also from the east side, from Bow Mar Dr. Since The

Looking at Marston from the East side[Bow Mar Dr.], there was another gorgeous,
alternate breeding plumage, Common Loon. There were 4, Common Mergansers also.
Looking at Marston from the West side, from the fence, birds were more diverse.

I apologize for not posting for ages. I had a serious accident last June and it
is taking longer than I thought to recover. It did not help, when I tried to
send this and my computer decided not to work.

While it was raining I went to the western side of Marston Reservoir in Denver
County . Watching from Old Wadsworth Blvd I saw around 32 Northern Shoveler, 18
Gadwall ,12 Mallard, and 4 American Widgeon. 18, Western Grebe were in the
middle of the lake, along with only 3, American White

Bonaparte's Gull, 1, ad. Herring Gull, and at least 80, Ring-billed Gulls.
There were about 12 Horned Grebes in the lake, but they were far out, like the

In my yd. on 5/15 was 1, Veery, on 5/16, I had 1, Swainson's Thrush. Today in
the yd. were 2 m. Western Tanagers, and many Chipping Sparrows and
Yellow-rumped Warblers. I live in Jefferson County, in Littleton.
Marston Reservoir,[Denver County] on 5/15 and 5/16 had 6 Willets.
Some shorebirds are still at the south end of Marston Reservoir. I saw 6,
Marbled Godwits, 2, American Avocet, 1, Willet and 5, Franklin's Gull in the
south area. Several days ago there were at least 190-200 Franklin's Gulls at
Marston, but their numbers disappeared quickly. Western Grebes

[Bow Mar Dr]. I saw 5 Marbled Godwits at the NE corner. There were 16, Horned

I saw 1, Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1, first cycle Thayer's Gull, many Herring
Gulls, quite a few California Gulls, and many Ring-billed Gulls. On the east

Marston is about 50% frozen now with some open water, but with less birds, as
far as quantity goes.
Today, I did not see the Barrow's Goldeneye, although it sure could have been
there. 1, m. Northern Pintail, 4 Canvasback, 1, Pied-billed Grebe, 5 Hooded
Today, in Denver County I saw one, Lesser Black-backed Gull, from the fence,
[which borders Marston Reservoir on the west side]. The water has dropped some
in Marston. If you look from the west fence, next to the road, you will see a
sand spit[this spit has been under water for about 6 weeks].
I checked Marston this afternoon. To my surprise, I saw a Common Loon way out
in the middle of the lake. [A bit early]. Many Western Grebes, Franklin's and
Ring-billed Gulls, and 4 California Gulls were present. Nothing unusual.

A note that Marston has a few mudflats on the western side. There were none
except a little one, 2 weeks ago.
Lot's of American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, Hooded Merganser,
many Common Merganser way out near the east side. 1, ad. Forster's Tern and 1,

Hi all, The 2, 1st, winter, juvenile White-winged Scoters were seen from Bow
Mar Dr. in the south end of Marston lake. The Surf Scoter is still there but
usually not super close to the White-winged Scoters[also found in the south end

Marston is pretty high water wise, with just a few mudbanks. There were a few

Today, I saw a beautiful alternate plumage Common Loon at Marston. The bird was
poking along the east side , seen from Bow Mar Dr. As the bird swam ever so
slowly he/she, looked under water quite a bit checking out what was below. I
never get tired of looking at breeding plumage Common Loons,
This evening, 9/2, I saw 3, Common Loons swimming on Marston Reservoir. I know
this is not rare but I thought it was a bit early for them to show up. They
were seen from Bow Mar dr. but then they were almost in the middle of the lake.

Hi all,
A quick stop at Marston reservoir today had variety, but not quanity. The
following seen from the west side were : Red-breasted and Common Merganser, and
Hooded Merganser, Eared Grebe, Horned Grebe, and Pied-billed Grebe, 2 pairs of
Greater Scaup, several pairs of Lesser Scaup,
I hit Marston Reservoir real late this afternoon.
One blue morph Snow Goose, along with the usual waterbirds were present at the
lake. The Snow Goose arrived on the west side of the lake around 4:15pm,
accompanied by 100's of Canada Geese. About 50 Cackling Geese were present.

Hi all,
Today, 6/26 I saw 1, basic Common Loon at Marston Reservoir, in Denver county.
I don't think this bird was one of the 3, I saw several weeks ago. This bird
was much whiter than any of the 3 individuals I saw at Marston several weeks
ago.

Nothing of great shakes at Marston, at least when I stopped by today. Saw
those lovely Common Grackles. 100's 100's of American Coot were there
yesterday and today. This arrival seems to have recently happened.
On 4/17, there was one pair of Lesser Scaup one pair of Greater Scaup, along
