I resumed banding at Clear Spring Ranch this week, in hopes of catching the
beginnings of Yellow Warbler and Chipping Sparrow migration, and it seems I
have. So far I’ve seen a few small waves of Yellow Warblers (8 banded
yesterday), and a couple days of increased Chipping Sparro
I came across the vireo about 200 feet east of the Prospect Park parking
lot bridge. It was in the brambles along the fence south of the creek.

Karen Strong and I just saw a White-eyed Vireo along the Highline Canal about
100 yards west or “upstream” of Rampart Range Rd. It was remaining low in
vegetation and seen on either side of the trail. A juv Harris’s Sparrow was in
the same area.

Evan Carlson found this White-eyed Vireo, along the Arkansas River, on the
south west side
of Runyon Lake in Pueblo, Pueblo County this morning. Chris Knight and I
were able to also
see it, after noon today. It was with a large flock of Yellow-rumped
Warblers, also one Orange-
crowned Warbler, an

The lores are bright yellow.
There is a black line parallel and just below the lores.
The rest of the "spectacles" (partial eye-ring) are lighter yellow than the
lores.
But this individual is not "white-eyed",
It is still singing loudly in same area at 9:10 am. I had forgotten that it has
a call similar to catbird. Great looks.

The bird is actively singing along Rd. 67 that turns south from the Eldorado
Springs Rd. after the South Mesa Trailhead and before Eldorado Springs Canyon.
The bird is in bushes after the first switchback. The road leads to the Fowler
trail.

This morning, a few birders were at the Chico Basin Ranch (fee area),
Headquarters Willows in Pueblo County and saw singing male White-eyed
Vireo (bird found yesterday), 9 species of warblers including a female
Black-throated Gray Warbler, a female Townsend's Warbler, and a
female/young male Americ
On a DFO field trip to Jackson State Park, a White-eyed Vireo was gleaning with
a large group of Yellow-rumped (mostly Myrtle) Warblers in Russian Olives.
There were also several small groups of Cedar Waxwings. Choppy water made
viewing the reservoir challenging, and there was little shore for s

The White-eyed Vireo continues haunting the juniper row and singing
frequently along the entrance road to the Wray Fish Hatchery, Yuma county.
Also a migrant Hermit Thrush and Eastern Bluebirds singing.

morning at the Wray Fish Hatchery, in Yuma County on 11 April 2017.
This could be the earliest spring sighting of this species for

Lisa Rawinski reported a White-eyed Vireo in Pike’s Stockade today (Conejos
County). The main trails are dry and passable but the bird is to the southwest
in some extremely wet areas (requiring hip boots). Nevertheless, the bird may
move to nearby locations. This is only the second local record

I saw, and badly photographed, a White-eyed Vireo at Hansen Nature Park
near the two small ponds. I then walked over to the banding station where

about 10 minutes or so at 9:00am. But that was plenty of time it turned out
to find the White-eyed Vireo. He was singing away quite loudly and
repetitively and afforded several very nice looks, all from the trails

I have uploaded the photos I took of the White-eyed Vireo on the Canon City
Riverwalk yesterday. Though not really sharp photos they do show field
marks.
I birded the Riverwalk again today. Though I was able to bird for a little
over 2 hours, it was not until early afternoon when I was off duty
I only had about an hour to bird this morning before leaving for an out of
town meeting so I hit the Canon City Riverwalk where I believed there would
be a good number of new migrants that I saw come in late yesterday
afternoon. I was rewarded with a White-eyed Vireo among other birds. I got

this morning at Crow Valley CG. It was not far west of the central parking lot.
I photographed a screech-owl that was seen by several others in this same area.
It was identified as a Western Screech-Owl,

southwest corner of Crow Valley Campground. Other birds of note were...
American Redstart, Blackpoll Warbler, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Warbling Vireo

Today (Sunday) an adult White-eyed Vireo was banded at the Chatfield
banding station (east of the Audubon Society of Greater Denver's Nature
Center)
