Mac Plus RAM problems

Hi all, I have a Mac Plus whose RAM I have upgraded to 4 MB. I removed the resistor on the board so that the Plus can recognize those one-meg SIMMs. But since I did that (and I tested with 12 different SIMMs), my System 6.0.8 boot disk will just display the happy Mac icon and then get ejected
