Yes, I was able to solve the problem, with guided direction from the C-Guys. The article you posted is a good summary of what I went through; thanks for including this. What was apparently was affecting my computer was the AMD processor, which may have been exacerbated by it being on an Asus MB

I finally tried it myself on this machine. It halts in the middle with an "access is denied" error. Then it goes through a long uninstall. But seems fine. Of course, one _should_ remember to turn off protections before running this. ***

Hard to say, but it wouldn't hurt to re-apply them just the same. I have had drivers go bad on me. Check the event log and see if anything shows up in there that might help. Funny note...I googled the full STOP error you put in below, and the *only* hit I got was your original email off the mail

More info: I was able to find the Stop Error which is: Stop: 0x007E (0xc005, 0xBAAD8756, 0xBACC3430, 0xBACC312c) I did some of the MS SP3 installation tips without success (disabling antivirus and anti-spyware programs). According to the MS website, SP3 should work on this computer.
