hi,
I just had the following fun experience trying to get the latest XFree
packages working on my TiBook (an older one with Rage 128 Mobility).
This was originally an 8.0 install, which is now almost in sync with cooker.
first, went to runlevel 1 and REMOVED all the XF-4.1.x packages (rpm -e

Abe,
I've had good luck with the cheapest SMC TX cards. They sell for about
$12 to $15 and WILL work with Mac OS too... at least with OS 8 through
9.2. I haven't tried it with OS-X, but Linux MDK PPC works fine with
them and uses the rtl8139 driver..
Go for it..

Yes it can. I have an old performa doing just that with an PC NIC that
had not drivers on the Mac side, but did have it for Linux. I belive the
NIC was a Netgear.
Just get any PCI-based NIC that you know you can get tdrivers for linux
(or which drivers might already be included in your
/lib/module
I am currently looking to set up a G3 "yosemite" to be a firewall/router. As
such, I will need to install a second NIC. What kind of NIC should I be
looking for? Can it be something simple like a 3com 3c905C, or what?
Thanks for help/suggestions.

A few additions to this email ( now that i noticed ).
You are using the wrong list :-) This is just for PPC processors, AMDs
should really be using the other list(s).

You are not the only one suggesting (complaining?) about these issues.
My ibook used to 'kernel' panic everywhere... So I got tired of that,
and went ahead and compile the kernel myself using the Bk tree from
www.tuxpcc.com ( check also http://www.ibooklinux.net/ if you have an
ibook ). Also, from
I am new to this list. This is my first posting. I hope a few words of
encouragement do not break the rules.
I am a strong believer in open source and Linux on the PPC platform. I am
not a programmer and am just getting into UNIX (thanks to Steve Jobs for
giving me the starting push with Mac O

Hi,
This is my first message since subscription. If this
is a wrong starting place please direct me to the
right site and protocol.
8.2 certainly laid a good foundation for linux future
development ahead of all other distros. But I have one
cripling problem on my system: crashes everywhere.
