1) I am trying to get detailed information about the metadata management
of darktable. the user manual gives no information at all. This is
critically important if one wishes to interact with image collection
management software, e.g. digikam. Where can one obtain this information?

Hello Kofa,
I found that the basecurve has a significant effect on the highlights. For your
D7000 DT sets as default the "nikon like alternate" base curve. Changing this
to "nikon like" has a positiv effect on the highlights. Although it does not
solve the problem it helps and the colors look m

Adding stuff to the lua API is a bit complicated but not undoable,
however it's hard to explain in a simple mail... the best thing is to look
at the lua specific parts in src/views/map.c as a starting point, look
around at how similar things are done in other users of lua out of the lua/

Nice idea :)
Use pink highlights as an indicator of over-exposedness and fix the
color later.

Thanks all!
Even with highlight recovery disabled, we lose much of the details.
Perhaps a programmatic way of doing something similar to what I did
(computing some kind of (weighted) average of the original R-G-B-R
photosite values and applying that to add fake luminance on top of
'average colour'
there's a stupid trick you could try (see attached xmp). i learned it from
this mailing list, i think from david vincent jones iirc..

Hi,
yes, I also can confirm that RT really excels in highlight
reconstruction and is ahead of darktable (*). IMHO this has two aspects:
1) RT controls all this from one single panel. So there are only few
clicks needed to get to the desired result.
2) Color reconstruction of blown-out highligh

I've tried dcraw -E (just dump the raw pixels without
demosaicing/highlight recovery etc.), then used a 2x2 convolution
matrix in the Gimp to join the 2x2 R-G-B-R blocks into a single pixel.
The result is at

no, sorry, I have been working mainly on adding UI elements with lua and
this has slipped through...
adding support for views as a general concept is done and I have mapped the
map view as an example
the lighttable view is one of the biggest view, and it's quite some work to
do...

Ok. Thanks. I really hope my problems are due to an immature driver. After
all support for the 960 was added to the Unix drivers just a month ago.
