We have a third confirmation on the authentication bug which is pretty
serious now that we know it's not an isolated incident with Thunderbird.
This got me thinking a bit how dbmail could improve on the pre-release
testing.
Speaking for myself, I don't like to test cvs since there are just to
Yes! This is a great idea. I agree with it all.

There are also CVS snapshots, which at least clear the hurdle for those
who don't like to manually check out packages. But it st

Found the sigpipe bug I believe.
If the mysql connection disappears for some reason (idle timeout, or mysql
restart), the dbmail process should reconnect. It does so for normal queries,
but in the case of authentication the mysql connection is used for escaping the
login/password sequences wit

I've done the checkin already. Nothing major wrt searching so I don't really
expect any problems there. I've skipped optimizing _ic_sort, just because that
was less trivial to fix.
below link shows the gist of what I've done:

I'm all for releasing. My fixes should make dbmail *much* more robust in case of
dropped database connections, a problem which has plagued dbmail as long as I
can remember.
The only uncertainty on my part has to do with my implementation of
db_check_connection in pgsql/dbpgsql.c. It's pretty
So looking back on the past three releases, they're all about 1 - 1.5
months apart (2.0.0 -> 2.0.1 -> 2.0.2/3). That seems like a reasonable
release rate right now, given the number of things in 2.0 that could use
touching up or speeding up.
Not to get too far ahead of myself, I'm thinking that we
