This issue is now resolved in pdfcrack 0.20 (just released).
The problem with parsing the integer of -n or -m arguments can be
worked around by either:
pdfcrack -f document.pdf -n 9
or:
pdfcrack -f document.pdf -minpw=9
but now even this should work:
pdfcrack -f document.pdf -n=9
