I am surprised that this chain of GNOME dependencies still exists with
xfswitch-plugin. If it is only due to the gdmflexiserver that is not in
lightdm, there may be a simple solution:

That's not possible unless gdm3 is also fixed. gdmflexiserver is
currently provided in /usr/bin by gdm3, so we can't ship one there
I tried the Ubuntu package for xfswitch-plugin without gdm3 (I use
lightdm) onto a Debian wheezy desktop and it installs fine but doesn't work.

It seems that, although XFCE isn't 100% ready yet, there should NOT be a need
to fix the missing bits by using Gnome parts, because in most cases it causes
almost a full install of Gnome due to it's dependencies.
