I believe this is a problem in libmikmod, not mikmod itself, thus,
reassigning.
There's also a new version of libmikmod out there, that might have a fix
for this (at least, if my suspicion is right). I will test that in the

I can't reproduce this. With a random .it file compressed with either
gzip or bzip2, mikmod plays it fine.
I tried compressing it without the filename being embedded in the

Since there is no usbfs package in Debian, that thing is part of the
kernel, and the bug happens with kdm, the workaround is made there, I'm
reassigning this bug to the kdm package.
