Hi,
I can confirm this same problem on a debian system (up-to-date
'testing') running on an IBM eServer X330. The root file system is on a
SCSI disk attached to the built-in Adaptec aic7xxx controller.
After update from 2.6.7 to 2.6.8 kernel the system stops with the above
described kernel

Hi Lars,
The workaround is to boot the old 2.6.7 kernel again, add the
missing driver name to /etc/mkinitrd/modules and rebuild the
initrd for kernel 2.6.8.
You can verify the list of drivers loaded from the new initrd
using something like
# mount -o loop /boot/initrd.img-2.6.8.1 /mnt
# cat

I just re-test it... it is still impossible for me to burn CD even after
installing kernel-image-2.6.8-1-k7 ( 2.6.8-3 ).
I try also to compile it with my own compilation parameters and it
change nothing.
See you

Hi Harry,
I saw that in one of the earlier messages and actually tried it - still
no luck.
If you build the initrd.img with -k it leaves the temporary files behind
and the loadmodules on my system contains:
modprobe -k vesafb /dev/null 21
modprobe -k fbcon 2 /dev/null
modprobe -k unix 2
By the way - maybe this bug should be moved? It doesn't seam to be
related to K7 processors in any way. In my case it's on a dual pentium.

Yeah, and we use it in a decidedly odd way too, but it is useful.
(FWIW, we've stopped needing spaces in any env variables due to other
changes, so fixing this need not be a priority
Hi Lars,
For debugging you could set BUSYBOX=yes and DELAY=5
in /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf and rebuild the initrd.
At boot time you will be prompted to enter a tiny shell.
Using 'cat /proc/modules' in this shell session you
should verify that the driver for the root filesystem
has been loaded. If

In attempting to build modules for vmware, the makefile in the kernel
headers directory is consulted. This is actually linked to the makefile
included in kernel-headers-2.4.27-1, with a symlink.
Unfortunately, it's broken.

Is this something that could be included in the 2.6.9 kernel?
