Actually, in potato, you can get gpm to port the mice data to
/dev/gpmdata and then just get X to read that, thus removing the need
to kill gpm. It was broken for a while, but it works fine now.

Well, I finally am close to getting quake-3dfx to work with my

When I try to run it, the splash screen comes up for 3dfx, and then
screen goes blank and nothing else happens. This locks everything

cursor doesn't follow the mouse at all.

broke dselect. dpkg itself still works, so you just need the file and

Well, we made a booboo:) My brother was attempting an
innocent apt-get upgrade, however, he accidently
missed an "unstable" line in his sources.list file.
The result is now that he has some WOODY files sitting
ont he computer and it's causing problems.

Thanks for your response. I checked my exim.conf again and did not find
anything wrong in it. I have included a few of the values below.
Assume:
my true IP address: 192.1.1.1
my true machine name: badhost.corp.c
After yesterdays upgrade, strange things happen. First of all, apache cannot
start because it cannot resolve my virtual hosts. However, my nsmeserver is
working fine. Also, I canno login to mailman or listar using their web
interfaces, I dont get any errors.

After I upgraded to kernel 2.2.14 from 2.0.38 my printer wouldn't work.

cd /dev
rm lp*
MAKEDEV lp
to correct the problem. Unfortunately I don't remember what the old major
and minor device numbers were, however there were four of them

See if "Wake on Lan" is enabled, and settings such as those.
I pretty much got things working how I want them except for when I start
x-windows with blackbox, or any window manager for that matter, I get a
white box on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. If I close it in
blackbox it kicks me back out to the log in screen where it is also present.

Thanks to everyone who vented opinions. I fsck'ed the partition and
df and du -s now agree to within a couple of kilobytes (7 in case it
matters, with df reporting the larger value).

For a lng time now ive had a problem running "startx" as normal user
It runs fine as root though.
I log in as normal user, run startx and it will just sit there. ???
Interestingly hitting c ( usually twice ) seems to kick start it,
so i assume its hanging
on some sub process spawned by "star
