It's a cheap workhorse. I haven't tried it with Linux but it doesn't
require any special software or drivers on macOS, which makes me think it
is entirely open standard.

Seconded. Not only it minimizes the problems you'll have when
installing Debian on it but it additionally helps promote those vendors
