With kernel 2.4.26 my Sony USB dvdrw drive is at /dev/sr1.
With kernel 2.6.8 there is no /dev/sr1 and the drive is not accessable
although lsusb knows the device is there.
cd /dev; ./MAKEDEV -v scd reports creating scd? devices with symlinks to
them from sr? but after this is run ls /dev does no

Last week I managed - with several false starts - to install the
realtime module and for the past few days I have been able to run
jackd --realtime -d alsa -r 44100
with no problems. Today, working on a totally unrelated issue, I
re-compiled a 2.6.8 bzImage without changing the security opt
On my backup 2.4.26 kernel the mount point for my Sony dvdrw drive is
/dev/sr1.
When I boot to my 2.6.8 kernel /dev/sr1 does not exist. The drive is
recognized by lsusb but this just gives the bus # and device #.
This must be because scsi emulation is on for the 2.4.26 kernel but not

I have on the hard drive 20 wav files (Signed 16 Bit Little Endian, Rate

I did succeed burning them one at a time to a cd with the command
cdrecord -v dev="ATA:1,1,0" -tao -pad -nofix filename.wav
with the -nofix option removed for the last track. The resulting cd

Yesterday I could run jackd --realtime -d alsa -r 44100 as a regurlar
user. This morning I ran a dist-upgrade that included an upgrade of
realtime-lsm. Now the jackd command aborts with a message:
unable to mlock() port buffers: Operation not permitted.
I can still run jackd as root but then

Thanks for the suggestions which solved my problems. I installed
gscanbus and when it aborted, I ran strace gscanbus which showed the
problem was a failure to open /dev/raw1394. A check showed this file

I have a Sony DCR-TRV525 Digital Video Carmera with a Firewire (i.Link)

I am looking for a 2-D drawing program which includes the ability to
select an object, display its dimensions and anchor point and edit these
values from the keyboard. I have tried several and tgif comes the
closest with an option to peek at these values but I have not found a
way to edit them
When I start oopadmin it first writes "Operating system does not support
locale" to the terminal and then starts.
My operating system is kernel-2.4.27 compiled from tha latest
kernel-source-2.4.27 release. I paged through make menuconfig again and
can't see anything regarding locale.

I have two boxes both using a kernel completed from kernel-source-2.4.26
and both using CUPS and openoffice.org.
Both have the latest dist-upgrade from testing.
On both I have edited /etc/openoffice/openoffice.conf and have enabled
export SAL_DISABLE_CUPS=1.
One box finds its attached printer,
I must have missed something very elementary. I can't find out how to
change the locale setting from POSIX to en_US.
locale -a shows both are available. apropos locale provides a long list
of locale programs including setlocale. The man page for setlocale
specifies the header to use in a C p
