Hi,
I have a few questions about how mail works. I'm using mutt with exim
on Lenny, which I use to access my pop mail account. I've noticed that
my messages sometimes are a long time getting from the server to mutt.
For example, if I check my email via the webmail webpage without
starting fetchmai

Fetchmail does not deliver mail on its own; it passes
Hello
Hope some would be kind to help me with this. As you will notice I'm new to this.
I have a Debian unit with fetchmail, exim4 and procmail installed. Everything is
setup and all seems to work fine.
I can receive mail if I were to use the following:
fetchmail -k -v
I use -k just to be safe

Hey guys,
I've saved some up for ya.
Ok, if I wanted to tell netscape mail to use this machine for a smtp
server, how would I write the line? Instead of smtp.isp.com, what would
it be? (I have exim)
someone posted somthing about getting a pop server, too, but I'm not
clear on that, either. I on
Try looking at exmh and xmail to have a nice X front end.
fetchmail may be used to bring the mail from your ISP.

I am using a modem and ppp to login to my ISP. What is a good setup for

crashes often. I would like to have a nice X front end. I currently
recieve between 250 and 350 e-mails a day and am logged in via modem

I would Like to set up My computer to be able to send and recive mail
(with a twist)... I would like to be able to upload and download mail
only once a day ... (around 2 in the morning) so my mail would proably
have to be up/downloaded to a local mail spool ? .. Is this Even
Possible? ... I kn

Hi all. Let me see if I have this right.
I'm using fetchmail and sendmail and they seem to work. However when i
threw Smail away and ran deselect to install Sendmail, the dependency
information said that I needed "deliver". I had already installed
procmail and thought that procmail was the logic

Concentric will not allow mail carrying a From: address outside its
network and a To: address outside its network.
SO if the mail was From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and To:
[EMAIL PROTECTED], CNC will refuse it as it looks suspiciously
like a relay attempt.
Also, the rules are different depending on wh

In you /etc/smail/config file append together.net to your hostnames= line
thusly:
hostnames=gologotha:whatever-else-you-have:together.net
then add the following new config parameter:
visible_name=together.net
That should do it but the visible name must also appear in the hostnames
line.

Just a minor correction Bob, as I've travelled over this same road that
Stan is considering; the "fetch mail from a pop site" that 1.3 now has is
called fetchmail.

I think the answer that you want is what the others have replied.

Note that if you use SMTP, you should use your ISP as your smarthost. This
is because if you have dynamic IP, your claimed hostname might not equal

Half of it anyway. To retrieve your mail, you probably want to use
fetchmail. See "man fetchmail" for more info than you could probably
want.
For sending mail, you have a variety of options ranging in complexity,

I have anacount on Netcom that I hav historically used as my primary
mail receipt/reading/sending place. The response over the net has
become pretty bad for interactive use, and the Netcom version of elm
doesn't understand MIME.
