Do you have a file called "/etc/fstab" ? That is the filesystem table, ie
this is what the system looks at at boot time to determine what disks to

It's a command to start configuration for your own kernel. For that you
have to have the kernel source package installed, it should be in
/usr/src/kernel-*/
Go there, and do either
'make xconfig' or 'make menuconfig' I like the first one, because it's
a GUI so
You should not have to compile the ibcs package. If your system has direct
access to the Internet, start up "dselect" as root and select the FTP
installation method. Select the FTP site as ftp.debian.org and the
distribution as "stable". Select the packages you want, and then watch
as they are down

I had a similar problem with my Sarge instalation and I got it working
with "expert 26 hw-detect/start_pcmcia=false acpi=off noapic"at the boot
line. Maybe it helps.

I have installed nvidia driver in debian woody, but i still confused in
editing the xconfig-4. Actually i have edit it based on the example, but
fail, it said that server error, no screen found. Since i have backup the
file, so i restore back again. And my problem gone, but still nvidia driver
wont

I got dependency trouble (in unstable) when trying to do apt-get
dist-upgrade, and so I gave it apt-get -f install.
The following error has deadlocked my whole upgrade path:

I think in both these cases you are being bit by having APT::Default-Release
"testing" in /etc/apt/apt.conf(.d). The relevant quote from man 5
apt_preferences is "The target release can be set on the apt-get command line
or in the APT configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf. Note that

I always run a command like this when I plug a USB disk:
echo 1024 > /sys/block/sdb/device/max_sectors
however, the disk is not always `sdb'. Can I write a udev rule according to
the UUID of the disk?

The solution turned out to be simple: upgrade the kernel. I'd have
thought 2.2.1 would have been sufficient, but upgrading to 2.2.9 made
everything just work.
