I'm a newbie to Debian Linux. Somehow I made a
mistake, and now whenever I run dselect, it'll try to
uninstall about 200 KDE packages. Thus I cannot
install or remove any package without risk of messing
up the whole system. It seems to be a lot of work to
manually re-select the 200 KDE
When I was new to Debian I experienced the same issue. I expect my
solution was the same as most other Debian users. Forget dselect and
just use apt-get.

Aparentemente tem um erro na base de dados do espelho em questão.
Você pode esperimentar trocar de espelho... você tem certeza de que
lhe convém um espelho francês em vez de brasileiro

i'm a debian newbie and try to install cyrus-sasl. but i can only find the
normal cyrus with dselect.
my sources.list:

Once you have the .deb locally, you can simply run dpkg -i
your_file_to_be_installed.deb, saving a bit of tedium perhaps.
apt and dselect seem to start 'update' OK and and appear to find some
files but in a short time, an error notice shows
up, (error 1, error2, 404 and the like

Debian 7 CD set? Did I get a joker set? It says 'Stable
on the CDs.
Huh? That sources.list line gets packages off the Internet, not your
CDs.

I haven't been able to get apt- and dselect to finish the
'update' phase when I try to download and install packages
from the sites recommended for deb packages but they work
ok when they're used with Debian CD's.
I don't think it is a modem problem because email and web
browsing work fine
