re-inserting it helps. On some platforms, such as my HP 6715b laptop w/
the proprietary Broadcom wl driver, sometimes putting the laptop to
sleep and then waking it up again helps (short of rebooting, of course).

whatever of the above methods you choose, you should be aware that it
will also clone fstab, partition labels, UUIDs and so on - so you
should plan ahead to change that manually afterwards, if needed.

should also be recorded somewhere in the logs (syslog perhaps). You can
try to run the laptop in "powersave" mode, or enable your temperature
sensors at least (search for package lm-sensors) to see what's actually
happening.
I've never heard such symptoms a
web browser, just like with home routers and similar appliances). The
best approach IMHO.

I'd add the same for ATI.
Perhaps Intel is the less Linux-hostile manufacturer at the moment. We
really should stop buying into any unsupported crap. It's the only (and
marginal at that) power we as consumers can exert.
