The PCI64 is a very different card. You need 2.2 kernel
and to compile in ess 1370 support. If you have already done
that then I have no idea. (I don't have that card anymore
because I didn't like it.)

Use lilo, then you can boot either. Just set up your
/etc/lilo.conf for duel boot. (I haven't got a sample
handy, but man lilo to get the format, and if all else fails
look in the archives for one, as I know many people have
posted there lilo.conf files many times.

You don't have to use dselect, you can do
-get install packages' where packages are the ones you want
to install.
