Uphaar, thanks for pointing out. I only get that "almost black, but
still visible" effect when the screen dims without locking, but when I
press Ctrl+Alt+L it gets completely black (same after resuming). So you

After taking two more patches in as many days I can confirm that the
issue is still present. Drawing and manipulating the main pane, or email
windows, takes too long over LTSP, and much longer than Dapper did on
the same equipment.

the issue is that checking if tracker is running using libtracker will
active the index, that's creating issue for users who desactivated the

By the way, I found that some themes, all controls previews in controls
selection dialogue and all icon theme previews are not displayed
proprly, with big question mark on them. This may be the cause for the
CPU load.

I have the nvidia-glx driver and desktop effects "normal".
I have just found out that the bug does not occur any more when I
switch off desktop effects completely!
My GPU is a "GeForce4 MX". According to NVidia, I should install the
legacy driver instad, but this seems to be impossible:

- A newly created user
- Manually changing theme to a non-default theme.

Glancing at Martin Pitt's short note I think that this long term,
ongoing issue is linked to character encoding and/or a file or library
which is co-dependent to XML. The same cyclical error that came up in
7.X comes up in 8.04.1 now:

I am using Ubuntu Hardy. The events are created when using OpenSync to
synchronize with a Nokia 9300 using syncml via obex. However, I just
found out that if I create similar events (as far as the properties that

desactivated the Prism extension and now it works fine.
