This is my experience also with the rc candidate on my Dove Y0 board.
The gnome-screensaver process goes to full cpu and (probably) never
unlocks. It does not seem to matter which screensaver is selected, and
it is my impression the forked instance of gnome-screensaver that
unlocks the screen dies

man! I am quite upset with Ubuntu. I installed the 9.10 version and
Samba does not work anymore. After two days of research I got a
headache and switched back to XP, waiting for Canonical to solve that
problem. It seems that many people have the same issue.
I don't know what is Karmic. Is
Scott, is there a particular reason why you made the gdm upstart job
respawning? It already has its own logic to respawn on a crashing X
server (or if an X session terminates normally). If gdm itself is
crashing, then restarting it over and over does not make much sense
either.

I'd concur with comment #7. That X fails to start is unfortunate, but
that's a situation that can happen for a variety of reasons (a simple

I too have the jaggies on the xsplash background on my main desktop,
perfect on all other computers. Looking at the contents of 'ubuntu-
xsplash-artwork' I see the various screensizes, however not the native
resolution of the size on the monitor, 1920*1080, therefore I assume

It appears with the new gdm, it no longer triggers FailsafeServer after
N failed tries. Instead, gdm simply exits after 5 tries.
Unfortunately, at that point upstart notices gdm exited and restarts it.
This is fairly easy to reproduce by doing 'echo "foo" >>
/etc/X11/xorg.conf' and rebooting.

It sounds like this could be a dupe of 441638. The thing to check is if
gdm is continually restarting (look in /var/log/gdm/ to see if you have
a bunch of log files all with the same date and time.) If so, then it's
a dupe.

I'm having the same issue as mannheim, with 64-bit karmic and Adobe Air.
Air installs, complains about the gio libs, and Tweetdeck won't work.

This change seems very unlikely to cause a regression, and it does make
the boot experience look much better for more users. The change
